WHAT:

Philips SureSigns VS3 and VS4 Vital Signs Monitors now meet Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) 140-2 and are available for immediate purchase.

WHY:

FIPS 140-2 is a security requirement designed to protect sensitive information using cryptographic modules that have been tested and approved by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). The Philips SureSigns VS3 and VS4 Vital Signs Monitors now meet this standard to securely send data in federal facilities.

The transmission of vital signs to an electronic medical record saves time and contributes to reducing vital signs recording errors, which allows clinicians to spend more time with their patients to help improve outcomes.

“The importance of secure and accessible patient information cannot be overstated,” says Stacie Ruth, general manager, Specialty Care, Philips Healthcare. “FIPS compliance for SureSigns VS3 and VS4 Vital Signs Monitors assures federal health care organizations that patient data can be safely and securely transmitted wirelessly for incorporation into each patient’s electronic medical record.”

Philips SureSigns Vital Signs Monitors provide a flexible, easy-to-use solution that helps simplify workflow while giving caregivers the flexibility to respond to changing patient conditions. SureSigns VS3 and VS4 Vital Signs Monitors include:

  •  Interoperability, including wired and wireless data transmission of all physiological parameters and all of the customizable observations and assessments entered into the SureSigns QuickCapture feature. Exported data is sent in an industry standard Health Level 7 (HL7) format for simplified integration into the electronic medical record.

  • Vital measurements of blood pressure, pulse oximetry, pulse rate and    temperature with tools that facilitate response to changing patient conditions and also the proactive and fully customizable QuickAlerts early warning scoring tool that supports the hospital’s rapid response team (RRT) and alerts caregivers as RRT protocol parameters are met.

  • Intuitive user interface that simplifies clinician workflow with easy-to-read numerics and tools like QuickAlerts, QuickCapture and QuickCheck, allowing clinicians to quickly access and view patient data.
