Sept. 10 — After an intensive evaluation of seven PACS suppliers, Joseph Brant Hospital (Burlington, Ontario) ordered a CARESTREAM Vue PACS and zero-footprint Vue Motion mobile image viewer to provide fully featured on-site and off-site reading and viewing of images and reports by radiologists, clinicians and referring physicians.

“A key advantage for Carestream’s Web-enabled Vue PACS is that it makes advanced reading tools available to radiologists from workstations at any location,” said Brian Chan, Director of Clinical Diagnostics, Joseph Brant Hospital. “Equipping radiologists to read and finalize their report from any location will greatly streamline our workflow and allow radiologists to read after-hours exams from home instead of requiring them to be on-site.”

Carestream’s Vue PACS provides flexible, cost-effective image review, management, distribution and archiving. It delivers access to advanced 3D reading tools, an optional lesion management module, and viewing of all digital mammography modalities including FFDM, breast ultrasound, breast MRI and digital breast tomosynthesis on a single workstation platform. This can help eliminate the expense and inconvenience created by requiring radiologists to switch between multiple vendors’ workstations.

Clinicians and referring physicians will also gain convenient online access to images and reports with the Vue Motion viewer, he added. “This new image viewer will make it fast and easy for clinicians and referring physicians to review both imaging studies and reports as they are conducting patient rounds at the hospital or from their offices or homes. The viewer is easy to use, the image quality is excellent and it supports viewing on workstations or mobile devices such as an iPad,” Chan said.

The hospital also ordered OrthoView™ digital pre-operative planning and surgical templating tools and peerVue business intelligence and decision support systems.
