INDIANAPOLIS (Feb. 20, 2014) – Axess Ultrasound, a Medxcel company and leader in ultrasound service, ultrasound technician training, and probe and system repair, announced the expansion of comprehensive General Imaging probe repair and testing capabilities for the Philips C5-1 and Philips L12-5 probes. Damage to ultrasound probes frequently results in the need for major repair or total replacement due to the complexity of the equipment. Axess Ultrasound’s comprehensive repair capabilities for both major and minor probe damage will help customers save thousands by avoiding costly replacement of probes.

“Axess Ultrasound has offered testing and repair services on a multitude of complex General Imaging and Transesohageal echocardiogram probes over the past several years,” said Chris Wright, Executive Director of Axess Ultrasound. “Through our research and development efforts we were able to identify areas of clinical need and expand our services to include more Philips probes.”

Due to the complexity of the technology and delicate design of the equipment, ultrasound probe problems frequently fall into the major (or comprehensive) repair category  and are often simply replaced.   Major repairs on a probe consist of complete array replacement, lens replacement, electronic repairs, full cable assembly, new housing, and re-terminations.     Opting for major repair significantly improves the longevity of the ultrasound probe while also maintaining the history of the probe. This enables the end users to keep equipment compliant at all times – all while saving thousands of dollars.

“Not all probes are repairable, but 80 percent of damaged probes in the marketplace can be repaired saving the customer up to 40 percent. Having the option of major repair versus replacement also lends to compliant equipment and improved patient safety,” added Wright.

Using the industry gold standard for testing the acoustic and electrical properties of an ultrasound probe, Axess Ultrasound accurately tests each complex probe prior to making repairs. Such testing offers accurate data about the problem so Axess Ultrasound can conduct major or minor repairs rather than just fix the symptoms.
