MEDxcEL, a growing family of health technology service organizations, has developed the PocketSIM, a small ECG/Respiration simulation device that allows clinical engineers and technicians to easily ensure the proper operation of devices. The new simulation device can fit in a pocket, is more affordable than other options, and is easy to use.

“Often times clinical engineers are needed for immediate testing during rounds or spontaneously called upon outside of the regular preventive maintenance testing schedule leaving them scrambling to locate the simulation device or having to spend a great deal of time getting the simulation device on location,” said Kristy Kainrath, vice president of corporate and strategic development for Medxcel. “With the new, smaller PocketSIM, a facility can afford to put more simulators in the hands of technicians improving repair workflow and eliminating the added costs for larger simulators.”

At $299, the PocketSIM is affordable enough for all technicians to have one in his or her pocket, eliminating wait times for shared equipment and freeing up space in the department. “Now when a clinical engineer gets flagged down by a nurse to check a monitor, he/she can quickly evaluate the equipment, saving valuable time,” added Kainrath. The device is the size of a typical smart phone and can output 18 Arrhythmia waveforms and six combined ECG and Respiration waveforms.
