Olympus Korea slapped with import ban on medical equipment

Olympus Korea is slapped with a three-month importation ban for illegally trading surgical electrodes with poor quality management records. KFDA announced on April 9 that it caught 10 medical supplies imported illegally from seven traders including Olympus Korea after an audit conducted with local governments from March 23 through April 3.

The audit was targeted at products that failed to complete regular renewal tests for good manufacturing practice guidelines to check whether the sales were actually put on hold. The GMP test for medical supplies should be renewed every three years from raw material warehousing, to production and shipment.

Olympus Korea sold thirty disposable surgical electrodes imported from Japan without renewing its GMP. Another importer Cas in Gyeonggi-do was also caught selling 2545 impedance body fat meters imported from China.

Bizm Korea was also caught for the illegal trade of 11,890 urinary tubes and catheters from Taiwan and Hi-cell Korea also sold 2,402 one-day soft colored contact lenses. KFDA ordered Hi-cell Korea to withdraw and scrap all the contact lenses already distributed in the market and sealed off the rest of 28,710 products in storage.
