More than 1,500 healthcare technology management (HTM) professionals are set to gather in Tampa, FL, next week for a wide-ranging conference that will focus attention on some of the biggest patient safety issues in modern healthcare, while showcasing cutting-edge advances in medical devices and systems.

At the AAMI 2016 Conference & Expo, the HTM professionals who service and support a dizzying array of complex and often life-critical medical devices and equipment will have the opportunity to learn what they need to stay on top of the latest innovations, upgrades, and advances in healthcare technology. This event will kick off in Tampa on June 3 and will run through June 6.

“By keeping medical devices serviced and operational, HTM professionals are on the frontlines of patient safety,” said AAMI President Mary Logan. “With the ever-increasing amount of complex technology being integrated into healthcare today, it is vital for HTM professionals to stay up to date. AAMI 2016 is the place for HTM professionals to learn about the latest advances in healthcare technology—from more than 50 education sessions to the Expo floor.”

There are an estimated 10 to 15 million medical devices in U.S. hospitals. With more of these devices needing to interact in evermore complex systems, the knowledge and skills required to purchase, repair, and maintain this equipment have expanded rapidly.

Throughout AAMI 2016, industry experts and leaders will provide practical guidance and insights on some of the biggest questions in the healthcare technology, including clinical alarm management, wireless challenges, procurement and contracting, and risk management. There will also be a special session devoted to the Food and Drug Administration’s next move on third-party service, refurbishment, and remanufacturing of medical devices, a topic that has created quite a buzz in recent months in healthcare technology circles.

“HTM professionals are constantly learning and adapting to the changes in healthcare delivery that are going on around them,” said Deborah Reuter, senior vice president of education at AAMI. “In this new era of healthcare technology, HTM professionals not only need technical aptitude but also need to be well versed in all of the issues related to medical devices, whether it’s alarm management or cybersecurity. Attending continuing education programs, such as the AAMI Annual Conference, helps HTM professional make sure they are prepared for anything, giving them a leg up in their careers.”

A full schedule of educational sessions and events is available at www.aami.org/ac. Media are welcome to register and attend.
