The American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) has bestowed a prestigious national gold award on the AAMI Foundation for its patient safety initiatives, specifically the contributions of its National Coalition for Alarm Management Safety and National Coalition to Promote Continuous Monitoring Patients on Opioids.

Out of a record 147 entries for the Power of A Awards, 30 gold and 55 silver winners were selected.

“The Power of A Awards highlight the association community’s valuable contributions to society on the local, national, and global level. They honor the outstanding accomplishments of associations and industry professionals in the areas of enriching lives, creating a competitive workforce, preparing society for the future, driving innovation, and making a better world,” according to ASAE.

The AAMI Foundation collaborates with clinicians, healthcare technology professionals, patient advocates, regulators, accreditors, industry, and other important stakeholder groups to identify and address issues that arise from today’s complex medical environment and have the potential to harm patients. The AAMI Foundation is the only nonprofit focused exclusively on solving urgent technology-related patient safety issues.

“We are honored that ASAE chose to recognize the AAMI Foundation’s patient safety initiatives. This award reflects the efforts of the hundreds of volunteers who dedicate their time, expertise, and passion to improving the status quo. Through their collaboration, they are leading the charge to bring about improvements in areas that affect millions of patients every day—such as infusion therapy safety, alarm fatigue, and continuous monitoring of patients on opioids,” said Marilyn Neder Flack, senior vice president of patient safety initiatives and executive director of the AAMI Foundation.

The AAMI Foundation and the other gold winners will now compete for a Summit Award—ASAE’s highest honor. These winners will be recognized at the 17th Annual Summit Awards Dinner on Oct. 5 at the National Building Museum in Washington, DC.
