New PACS Will Create Global Worklist from Disparate RIS/PACS Platforms, Speed Reports, Enable Efficient Reading from Any Location.
Radiologic Associates, P.C., (Middletown, N.Y.) is installing a CARESTREAM Vue PACS with Vue Connect to streamline its reading workflow and accelerate the delivery of radiology reports for the physicians’ offices, imaging centers and hospitals it serves.
The 21-member radiology group evaluated seven PACS vendors before making a decision. “The new Vue PACS and Vue Connect will allow us to read for all these unaffiliated facilities from a single PACS with a global patient worklist. We will replace four PACS workstations with a single Web-based PACS platform that delivers advanced reading tools to our radiologists—whether they are reading from a healthcare provider’s site or from home,” said Clifford Barker, MD, a radiologist and managing partner at Radiologic Associates.
He added that the seamless link between disparate RIS and PACS systems will allow efficient communication of patient information including relevant prior imaging exams to radiologists, as well as enabling transmission of reports to a facility’s RIS.
“Carestream’s Vue PACS also includes the ability to read for all modalities including mammography, innovative advanced tools for 3D exams and rapid delivery of large image files over lower bandwidth connections, which is a huge asset to our nighthawk radiologists who are reading from home,” reports Andrew Mazzella, CEO, Radiologic Associates, P.C.
Access to the global worklist, voice recognition, prior imaging exams and advanced reading tools are available to all radiologists regardless of their location.
The practice also will deploy Carestream’s Vue Motion zero-footprint, Web-based enterprise viewer, which provides convenient on-demand access to imaging studies and patient information on mobile devices as well as PCs and workstations.
The group’s productive workflow will enable it to take on new clients in the future, Mazzella adds. “We couldn’t grow our business when we needed a separate PACS workstation for each client. Now we have the flexibility to expand our services to include additional healthcare facilities and embrace new opportunities.”
