In today’s edition of the MedWrench blog I want to share a brief Q&A I had with Chris Jones of the Baltimore Medical Engineers and Technicians Society. The Baltimore Medical Engineers and Technicians Society is a non-profit organization established to promote the principles of quality patient care through the safe and effective operation of Biomedical Instrumentation. They provide a medium for the interchange of ideas and the dissemination of information among BMETS members. See below for the Q&A.

Chris Jones, Sr. BA HCA

What year was the Baltimore Medical Engineers and Technicians Society established and how did it come into being?

1984

Currently, how many members do you have?

117

Who is the president and how many operating board members do you have?

I am until June 2016; 4 others on the Executive Board

How often do you meet and where?

Once a month – except December & January; Last meeting is our May Bash.  Most meetings are hosted by our Vendors.  Except our September Kick-off meeting and the End of year “May Bash”

Do you have a mission statement? If so, what is it?

To provide a network of Biomedical and Clinical Engineers with educational and networking opportunities within our region.

Is BMETS (not sure if that is your abbreviation or not) specific to only specific types of medical equipment?

No, BMETS is abbreviation for Baltimore Medical Engineers and Technicians Society – multivendor equipment.

When is your next meeting? How many vendors or attendees are you expecting? Where do you see BMETS in 5 years?

I really do not know that answer.  Hopefully still providing the educational information that we have been doing for many years.

What are some ways that you help upcoming BMET students?

We have established a scholarship program with a local College.  In 2014, we provided Howard County Community College with a check for $500.00 to be used in scholarship to students enrolled in a BMET or HTM course.  Also, On April 23, 2016 we will be having a Charity Ride to increase the funds of the Victor Dobbs and Mark Reinhardt Scholarship fund.  Please visit http://bmets.wildapricot.org for further information and to register for the event.
