touch panel display problems

We are having an increase in the touch panel board issues, the rep comes out abd replaces the boards and inevitably, the same issue arrises soon thereafter. We have 5 ie33 that are about 7 yrs old, and 3 are problematic in this way. Is it a matter of the systems are just getting old or are the replacement boards on short supply because the system we have is being phased out and the boards are being back ordered? Is it common practice for the short supply of these boards that they may be "refurbished" boards?

What is the issue? Are they loosing calibration? Flickering? What is the symptom?

Most issues I’ve ran across with my touch screens were related to cabling, not the screens themselves.

There could be a couple of things going on. It sounds like a higher than normal failure rate. We are seeing an increased number of failures of iU22 and iE33 touch panel assemblies, and believe it is primarily due to age.

If the replacement parts are failing quickly, it could be that the parts being put in are used and are not refurbished or new.  Even if the part is purchased from Philips, the part may be refurbished. The OEMs sell repaired or refurbished parts, because they can and sometimes because they have no other choice. The important thing is HOW it is repaired and refurbished. At AUE we want the replacement part we sell you or install in a customer's unit to last a long time, so we refurbish them by using new components to replace the parts that have failed as well as parts we know are likely to fail.

Based on our experience, we are concuring with Kevin's comments. The iu22/ie33 touch panels have been very much a "bullet proof", unless someone run over it with a folk lift. Seriously, most of the touch panel problems are cabling, video card or calibration. Let us know if we can help you to correct your issues.

Are you reffering to the touch panel PCB's or the Video Cards that run them ? most issues are cabling but on the E Cart the video cards are a known issue and overheat to failure often.
