Door won't lock

Hello,

We purchased one of these used and when it came to us, the door was locked and could not be opened until the power was turned on. Now that we have it opened, we are unable to get it to lock. We always get a door lock error message and have never been able to get it to lock since it was first opened.

Thanks,

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

Doors staying locked until power on is usually normal for most centrifuges. Did you try to manually open it, i.e., via the emergency release, before powering up? Have you tried closing the door, powering off, then powering on again?

Does the front cover look like it comes off? There may be a couple of screws on the bottom edge, allowing removal. You may be able to see an interlock then. My most recent experience is with the RC-6, so your best help may be ThermoFisher tech support, or Ozark Biomedical.

Hello,

We figured it out. The interlock was at the back right of the sliding door. After removing the front panel and not seeing anything, we decided to try to remove the top rear panel. Sure enough the interlock was there. We played around with it and flipped it up and down a few times, so now it works. Not sure why it was stuck in the open position.

So for anyone wanting to know where the interlock is for this machine, it's in the back right of the sliding door track and you need to remove the top rear panel to access it.

Thanks,

Jeff

To open the lid on the Sorvall Evolution RC centrifuge with power off, the cover does NOT need to be removed.  There is a small hole to the right of the control panel on the cover.  Using a stiff paper clip or long arm of a allen wrench, insert into the hole to pess down the latch and while holding it down, open the lid.  It may take a few tries to find and get the latch down far enough.  The proceedure is explained to the operators manual.
