IntelliVue Center iX (PIIC iX) Intermittent crashing

We have a new install of the the new Center iX system. The application randomly crashes and restarting, sometimes not restarting at all causing all of our monitoring to fail into a local mode. Philips will not acknowledge that there is a bug with the software. If anyone else has this system I'd be interested to hear what your experiences are with it.

When checking the windows event logs it always shows the PIIC iX server crashing.

Okay.. which version software are you running? Is it running on your IT / IS server or one of yours? If it's one of yours, there ought to be some bug reports, like a temperature sensor went too hot or something. But it could just be that the power supply / supplies hiccuped, or maybe your UPS needs new batteries.

More details, please!

Ray, this is a brand new install. Hardly a month old, the server is brand new and UPS. There is a bug with the software that obviously Philips USA may know about and that Philips Canada doesn't. We have a full service contract on this equipment and I don't even think the Philips people know what the issue is. I'm just wanting to know if there is anyone else out there with this system ad having these issues ?

There was something in ECRI Alerts about rev A.01.xx not rebooting correctly and shutting down, if a couple of criteria was met. BUT this came out March of 2013. That's the only one I've found so far.

So, again, please, which version are you using? Put the mouse over the Philips name in the upper left corner and click on it to bring up the Product Support Page, which will have the software version on it.

If you want, shoot me an email at rabrown@freemanhealth.com and I'll forward the Philips notice to you.

Our version is B.02.01   brand new install.  We just received one patch a week ago and still didn't fix the issue.

We are having the same issues. We started with B.02.02 and received the B.02.03 patch and are still having the issue. How's your system going?

Well the issues are still occurring but not quite as often now.  What Philips put it down too was the bed labelling .  I'm not sure of all the details why they think this was the root cause but since a change was made with the bed labelling the problem seems to be almost gone now.

The last problem we had was a duplicate IP address issue showing up and I believe there yet another patch to fix this.

Currently we are at B.02.02 and supposed to be patched to .03 next week which is supposed to take care of the duplicate IP address issue I believe.

@viperpiper....did you ever get your intermittent crashes resolved? We just upgraded to PIIC iX and are experiencing some crashes (some have been explained, others not).

We experienced the same issue once we upgraded to B.02.1.  There is a bug in versions from  B.02.01 to B.02.05.  PHILIPS WILL NOT TELL YOU THIS INFORMATION. There is a FCO out on this issue.   We upgraded to B.02.07 and the issue has not occurred since the upgrade.   Have Philips come in and upgrade the Piic ix systems.  This issue will not go away until you do the upgrade to B.02.07 and above.  Good Luck and be persistent with Philips.  I miss the good ol days where a vendor acknowledges a problem and fixes it.  Now it is about covering up their mistakes and blaming the end user.

All of our reboot issues and disconnect issues seem to have gone away. My co-worker diagnosed the problem as being our equipment label scheme on our bedside monitors.  If the equipment name had an underscore in the name and that particular bedside received a yellow or red alarm that would cause a server reboot.  I don't know if this is documented by Philips or not but that's what my co-worker here seems to think was the issue.  If you are looking for more specifics I can look into it.  Believe me, we would be getting these crashes several times a week and now not at all.

Thanks for the updated comments.  We are on B.02.07 and have found the following issue:

In units that use MX40s paired with a bedside monitor, the PIIC iX surveillance application will shut down and re-start itself if clinical staff selects a Neonate profile for a patient OR if a patient is transferred into the unit with a Neonate profile.   We have elevated this as an issue with Philips.  Philips has noted that Neonate profiles are not supported with MX40s.  Under the legacy PIIC system, an error message displayed at the surveillance station.  With PIIC iX, there is no error message.  The shut down/re-start may occur over an hour after the Neonate profile is selected.
