No video when powered on

I am a retired RN who volunteers in BioMed for Medical Mission. When I power it up, the screen only flashes "Copyright 1993-1999". It was last checked in Dec. 2015. We get these items donated to send overseas. No BioMed engineer at this time. Nothing in the Acuson 128 manual troubleshooting section. Any suggestions?

Karen, it sounds like you are getting the onboard bios flash for the monitor, by no actual video, or graphics information from the ultrasound unit. First, disconnect the a/c power from your ultrasound machine.

The video and graphics are considered two different levels. If you follow the cables that go to your monitor, one will be the a/c power cable, the other will be your video cable (there may be additional smaller cables for the mouse, keyboard, and speakers)...reading your description, you have a/c voltage getting to the monitor.

At this point, I would like to inquire if the unit was disassembled for shipment to your location, or not. If it was disassembled, verify your video connector at the monitor is properly installed...simply remove the video cable at the monitor, and reseat it, making sure to fully lock the connector into place. You can plug in your machine, and power the unit up...if no change, power the unit down properly, and remove the plug from the wall again.

If the problem persists, the most probable cause of malfunction is likely needing to reseat the boards located in the electronics, or card bay. Usually there are user-friendly card extractors on the upper and lower edge of the circuit cards...ultrasound machines, are finicky machines, chassis torsion while in shipment could cause your current issue.

Most external panels for ultrasound come off with a little physical manipulation, once you get the side panels off, on one side, you may see what's called the 'Electronics, or Card Bay', remove its cover, you may also see a card layout explaining which cards control beam forming, video, etc. on the other side, you may be able to see where the video cable comes down to make contact with the bulk head...I have seen this video cable go bad once in 14 years...since this was shipped, it may depend on how well it was packed...but I would start with reseating all cards, it could be a video card, or the power supply responsible for supplying voltage to the video cards...just double check that the power cord is removed from a/c power before reseating any cards. Good luck, please let me know if you need any additional information, I will keep tabs on your post.
