Display Blank

Hi Folks,

I've got a MAC 5500 with a blank display. I shone a flashlight across the screen and I could make out text on the screen. I swapped the display with a new one out of the box but the blank display issue continued. I tried the new display on another machine and there were no issues.  Could the main board be the problem? It's usually a cable issue.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks Jamil

I tried the original display with another MAC and it worked without issues. I'm leaning towards not a display or cable issue. I haven't come across a main board causing this before but it could happen.

I read your efforts and can truely see why you may eliminate the display assembly as a possible cause, but keep in mind that the brown ribbon cable (2034923-001 or -002) traces can fatigue and partially seperate causing it to "black out" intemittently. By moving the ribbon you may have relieved the stress point and now it appears functional because the traces are touching once again.

To be sure its not in the main board, as you commented, try installing the display from your other machine on this unit. I would be willing to bet it will work just fine.

The inverter ribbon is an inexpensive part to replace (and should be a spare part on hand for any Biomed dealing with MAC's) compared to a main board or display assembly and has almost always been the cure for me.

Please feel free to call for further tech support, it's free and i'm happy to trroubleshoot it with you.

I have 15 of these EKGs and 9 times out of 10, it has been that brown/orange display flex cable.

We had an instance where we replaced the backlight itself, but that was the exception to the rule.

Thanks again for the assistance. It ended up being the main board. Once replaced and reloaded with software the display came up ok.
