GE Ohmeda Panda Warmers O2 Blenders

The GE Ohmeda Panda iRes Infant Warmers/Resuscitators' O2 blenders are required to be rebuilt every two years. We have nine of these warmers for two years now and it's time to rebuild these O2 blenders. The cost is $900 each for GE to rebuild these O2 blenders ($1,100 to buy a replacement blender). The kit is $430 each to rebuild in-house and a step-by-step rebuild instructions are in the maintenance manual. After reading the instructions, I did not see any reason why this rebuild cannot be done in-house. It involves a full disassembly, o-rings, diaphragms, ball seals replacements and final adjustments and alarms testing (which need to be done anyway after receiving the rebuilds). I figured about two hours for labor from disassembly to final testing (unless your experience says otherwise). The savings is over $4000 every two years if rebuilt in-house. I would appreciate any opinions either positive or negative as far as rebuilding these O2 blenders in-house. Originally asked by K.Ongchangco via TechNation

We send our Bird blenders to Midwest Biomedical to be redone for $290 http://www.midwestbiomedical.net/ Give them a call and see what they can do for the ones from the pandas?

Buy the rebuild kits from Midwest Biomedical. They are the manufacturer of these blenders. The first kit I ordered came from GE and it was dated Octber 2007. I promptly returned it. The kit from MB will cost you about $200. Use fine tip long nose pliers to remove the span screws. MB uses specially manufactured tools to remove these and they will not sell them. Read the instructions and watch out for one of the port with a left-hand thread. The kit replacement shouldn't take more than an hour. Another 30 minutes to test. You will have to create your own test jig; no electrical wiring needed; just pressurized air plumbing. The first time took me three hours. Do it yourself and save money. This is very easy to do.

My company does blender service.  We also sell new blenders.  Let me know if you ever need anything.  I'd be glad to help you out.

Doing it yourself opens you up for significant liability if it fails.  We rebuild, ultrasonic clean, and test per OEM specs.  Our techs all went to the OEM schools to be certified to do this work.  It's not just the special tools, which we have made for us, it's the liability if something goes wrong.

I can also do them for less than $290 all day long...

Did you use "Krytox"? It's recomended in the manual to help hold a spring in place while assembling the cap to the balancing chamber? If so, was this what you used everytime it called for greasing? If this is not what you used, what did you use?
