Need help replacing the COM2 connector

Has anyone had success replacing the COM2 connector on the main board of a Mac5500 ECG machine? GE sells the connector and while I'm waiting on the part, I decided to go ahead and desolder the old connector. Had a heck of a time getting it off the multi-layer board and wouldn't be surprised if I damaged the board. Fear I'm wasting a lot of time replacing the part and reassembling just to find out I've created a new problem vs replacing the whole board in the first place. I guess $12 for the part vs the price of a new board is worth the effort. Wish GE would figure out a better design for how the wireless bridge connects to the unit.
