Work station not booting

This unit from a public hospital here in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, failed 2 years ago and we are trying to repair it. This what we know. It had a nicad battery leak onto the motherboard, there is no display during startup and the C-arm batteries are dead. There does appear to be activity on the motherboard , ie some signal activity.

Would appreciate some assistance as to what can be checked to determine where the fault may be.

Reluctant to just purchase a replacement motherboard on the off chance that it will solve all. Cambodian hospitals are very poor.

thanks you

Chris,

Thanks for the offer. I do have a downloaded version of a service manual, approx. 8Mbytes.

Don't believe it to be the real manual. It is quite helpful but lacks a lot of info. then again this is the first time I've worked on a C-arm. Matter of necessity.

I would appreciate it if you were able to answer my many questions.

my email is bowlesray@gmail.com

I get an googlemail error if I email your aol address.

thanks

Ray

Chris, I get the same error. I'm using Yahoo. I use Dropbox for those sections over 25meg. I do have the full manual without the interaction in 3 sections

First a couple of questions, Does the screen light up or display anything at all, especially during startup? Best thing to try to begin with is to reseat all the boards and connectors. Then I would try to hook a monitor to the back and see if you see the BIOS and startup scripts, If the nicad battery you mention is the memory battery, it has to be replaced. If you lost the memory, you will probably be looking at reloading software? There is a very good chance the motherboard will have to be replaced

You could try cleaning the bother board. Any place where etching occured from the battery acid exposing copper on the mother board could be bypassed by jumping with a new soldered wire. Here is a thread talking about repairing damaged boards from battery leakage.

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-hardware-18/motherboard-repair-leaking-cmos-battery-880573/

Hers a site for circuit board repair kits and tips

http://www.circuitmedic.com/

Also you definetly would need to replace the C-arm main batteries to help trouble shoot properly. The batteries carry a float charge in order for the c-arm to work. If the batteries are dead then your just going to get a bunch of crazy errors. So I would start with cleaning the motherboard and replacing the batteries. This would be the cheapest route to go.

Hope this helps.
