Mortara Instrument, Inc. announced today the release of its latest resting electrocardiograph (ECG), the RScribe 5, for sale outside of the United States.  The RScribe 5 is a PC-based ECG system that features Mortara’s VERITAS™ resting ECG interpretation program and either wireless (WAM™) or wired (AM12™) USB ECG acquisition options.   This addition to Mortara’s full line of resting electrocardiographs is uniquely positioned as a cost-effective, Microsoft® Windows® compatible system that can be installed on existing customer hardware, eliminating the need to purchase additional, dedicated PC systems.

RScribe 5 offers impressive flexibility through its modular design.  Based on the clinical environment, it can be used as a simple, standalone ECG acquisition device or as a more sophisticated, distributed ECG acquisition, storage and review system.  Designed for today’s networked environments, the RScribe 5 can easily be integrated into existing network infrastructure in physician offices, clinics or hospitals to facilitate improved workflow and EMR connectivity.

RScribe 5 is Mortara’s latest offering in a series of highly innovative “Scribe” systems which utilize a centralized database architecture, allowing records from various modalities to be archived and retrieved from a common location. This shared database, which can also be linked to a local or enterprise-wide EMR, provides workflow related advantages such as increased efficiency, minimized redundancies and improved accessibility to relevant patient information.  In addition, because the modality may reside on a computer or workstation along with other clinical applications, it makes for efficient and timely switching from one procedure or test to the next.  Finally, it also simplifies the process from the patient’s perspective; by enabling the test to be brought to the patient, this multi-modality approach reduces the need to move a patient from location to location for each new procedure.

With interoperability at its core, the RScribe 5 integrates easily with office and cardiology information systems utilizing a variety of industry-standard protocols and data formats. Facilities may select an interface model which works best for their specific requirements. From its bidirectional DICOM® interface to export of ECG data using XML or PDF, RScribe 5 enables a wide range of interoperability options.  The RScribe 5 also supports an HL7 Gateway which can be added for automated data exchange with practice management, HIS, and EMR systems.

Like Mortara’s other resting ECG offerings, RScribe 5 includes its signature Best 10 feature and optional wireless ECG acquisition module, the WAM.  With Best 10, the electrocardiograph automatically selects and displays the best 10 seconds of ECG from memory, reducing the need for repeat ECGs due to patient movement or other sources of ECG artifact.  With the WAM wireless ECG acquisition option, clinicians can enjoy the convenience and ease of working free from a direct patient connection to the PC.
