Today’s surgical tables are more innovative and versatile than ever before.  Not only does a surgical table protect patients, but it also provides safety for the staff and comfort for the surgeon.  A superior operating table is the basis for better patient outcomes so it is imperative for this piece of equipment to be on a bi-weekly or monthly maintenance schedule.

Here are a few daily, weekly, bi-weekly and monthly procedures to keep in mind during your scheduled PM for surgical tables:

At The End of Each Day:

  • Check table casters for any accumulated debris and clean casters.

Weekly

  • Check table casters for any accumulated debris and clean casters.

Bi-weekly

  • Charge batteries
  • Operate each table function. Operation should be smooth and quiet. If it is not, have a qualified technician repair the table. Never permit inexperienced, unqualified persons to attempt to make any repairs to the table.

Monthly

  • Clean casters and floor locks; check for conductivity.
  • Remove any oil (suture, floor wax, etc.) that may have accumulated on casters.
  • Clean casters with a recommended solution.
  • Lightly lubricate caster bearings

Since each manufacturer and hospital’s protocols differ, please refer to your facilities guidelines, or the included service manual for the equipment before setting PM schedules or performing test.
