Innovative solutions that help improve patient outcomes and practice workflow will be on display at the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) Scientific Assembly this week in San Diego. Welch Allyn, a leading medical diagnostic device company that specializes in helping clinicians improve staff productivity and the patient experience, is showcasing two such solutions including the CP 150, a connectivity-ready electrocardiograph (ECG), and the iExaminer, a handheld ophthalmic imaging device.  Featured at booth 2421 in the San Diego Convention Center, the devices offer simple, portable solutions that can be used in care settings where flexibility and ease-of-use are of utmost importance.

“Simple, efficient and portable devices are important for healthcare providers in variety of fast-paced clinical settings—especially in a family practice office,” said John Haberstock, senior manager, core business and ambulatory care at Welch Allyn. “Our CP 150 and iExaminer devices help family practitioners do more with less because they can administer tests, reduce documentation time and share patient data with systems inside and outside the office.  Both devices help improve staff productivity and workflow by gathering patient data with just the push of a button, but it is the intangible benefits like ease-of-use, reliability and speed that providers and patients will appreciate the most.”

Welch Allyn CP 150
The Welch Allyn CP 150 is an easy-to-use ECG that offers flexible report formatting, intuitive design and functionality in addition to administering patient tests and managing information via a touch screen, color display.  The seven-inch, color, touch screen display with an integrated user interface eliminates the need to track between the display and keyboard and allows for fast and easy entry of patient data helping to save time and reduce errors. A lead quality display is also incorporated into the touch screen, which helps easily and efficiently identify lead connection problems. An instant-on feature powers up the device quickly to take an ECG at a moment’s notice and the advanced filters provide optimal ECG trace quality to ensure accurate readings. The CP 150 can be transported easily with the battery-powered operation and up to 100 test results can be stored on the device. ECG results can also be transferred directly to a USB memory stick for additional storage or uploaded to the practice’s data management system through the Welch Allyn CardioPerfect Workstation.

Welch Allyn iExaminer
The iExaminer consists of a hardware adapter and associated software that allows healthcare providers to capture, store, send and retrieve retinal images from the Welch Allyn PanOptic Ophthalmoscope using the iPhone 4 or 4S. Those images can then easily be shared with patients to help increase knowledge and compliance or even with specialists, who remote users may not have easy access to, helping to improve the overall quality of care provided. The iExaminer adapter aligns the optical access of the PanOptic to the visual axis of the iPhone camera to capture high resolution pictures of a patient’s fundus and retinal nerve. The iExaminer software application, available from the Apple App Store, then allows physicians to save images to a patient file, as well as e-mail and print the images.
