It may sound routine, but one of the most important things you can check not only at PM time but anytime you are near one of your ultrasound units is to checking transducers for case damage or problems. The key with issues in regards to transducer cases or cable is to have them checked and repaired immediately. The longer you wait the less likely a repair can be successfully made or the more costly it will become. You can check all the transducers on a unit for damage or problems in the cable or case in just a minute or two. That minute can save you thousands of dollars.

Here is an example of a probe that had a small separation in the housing that became worse over time. From the outside it certainly looks like it need help but does not look detrimental to the transducer. See figure 1. Figures 2 and 3 show what the internal effect was and that gel had been forced inside the housing and has caused a total failure of the transducer.

This went from being something simple to something detrimental all due to time; resolve these issues quickly for your best chance of saving the most in your repairs.
