What PM tips do you have for users of Ultrasound Systems?

Clean your filters every 30 days whether they need it or not. Heat and bad power are the number one killers of electronics.

 

How often do you recommend servicing this type of equipment? 

A full PM should be performed at least once a year at a minimum; twice a year if the unit is used 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. Preventative maintenance is always less costly than a failure…!!!

 

What advice do you have for someone looking to purchase an Ultrasound System? 

Like any other major purchase, do your homework not only on the unit you are buying, but whom you are buying it from. Get references.

 

What is the benefit in purchasing refurbished vs. new? 

With healthcare “reform” and the new healthcare tax on OEM’s, quite a bit less is being spent on Research and Development. OEM’s are just repackaging existing product lines. Unfortunately, innovation is not really the focus anymore. With that, buying a system that is 3-5 years old can save up to 30 to 50% in investment costs. As long as you do your homework, why wouldn’t you buy a refurbished system from a quality minded company?
