In today’s edition of the MedWrench blog I would like to highlight my brief Q&A session with Frank Watts, Service Engineer at Medical Imaging Technologies. Working with Frank and Sarah from M.I.T. is always a pleasure and this time is no exception. Thanks again Frank for sharing your expertise!  

Q.  What PM tips do you have for users of CT Scanners?

A.  Never store linen in the room with the CT. Linen dust clogs filters very quickly. Be sure to report any and all abnormalities with system operation to service as soon as possible. Problems that are discovered early can be corrected before you incur downtime.

Q.  How often do you recommend servicing this type of equipment?

A.  Preventative maintenance tests need to be performed every 90 days. Doing PM’s can eliminate unwanted down time and save money for your facility

Q.  What advice do you have for someone looking to purchase a CT Scanner?

A.  Do your homework! Visit the companies where you are getting quotes and tour their facilities. Have them provide current customer references. You want to make sure you’re purchasing from a reputable dealer.

Q.  What is the benefit in purchasing refurbished vs. new?

A.  A CT that has been properly refurbished will look and run as good as a new one and provide many years of reliable service with regular PM’s. A refurbished CT is priced a lot less than a new one and can be provided with the same warranty coverage.
