With over 600 employees signed up; event split into separate indoor and outdoor activities

For the fifth consecutive year, employees from Welch Allyn, a leading medical diagnostic device company that delivers pragmatic innovation at the point of care, are participating in its “Show of Hands” community service campaign. Unlike other years, this year’s campaign will be split into two separate days. Today, the campaign kicked off at the company’s global headquarters in Skaneateles where over 300 employees reported to assemble disaster relief care kits for Heart to Heart International and assist with a mass mailing for the Rescue Mission.
On Tuesday, June 10, another 300 employees will travel to over 20 different locations across Cayuga and Onondaga Counties to assist with various outdoor activities, including: construction of a new wing at Clear Path for Veterans; building vegetable garden beds at Calvary Food Pantry; creating a library lending system for clients at McMahon/Ryan Child Advocacy Center; and getting the Cayuga/Seneca ARC Camp Columbus on Owasco Lake ready for the summer.
“Welch Allyn employees enjoy giving back on a local and worldwide level,” said David Allyn, director of corporate social responsibility at Welch Allyn. “Without them our Show of Hands campaign would not be possible. Today our atrium was filled with thousands of donated items and kit-packing stations, and there wasn’t an unused pair of hands on the assembly lines. It was amazing to see so many smiling faces as the care kits and mailings piled up. With another 300 employees on deck for next Tuesday, we couldn't be more excited about how many people we're helping who live right here in our own backyard.”
Because of the split to two days, the timeframe for this year’s indoor activities was extended by a few hours. With more time and people devoted to the project, employees set goals of 15,000 disaster relief care kits for Heart to Heart International (up from 9,500 last year) and 50,000 mailings for the Rescue Mission (up from 32,000 last year).
“These are our neighbors we’re reaching out to, so this level of involvement is really an investment in the communities where our nearly 1,100 local employees work, live and play,” added Allyn. “People are starting to anticipate the annual event, and with such a great response to our call for volunteers the campaign needed to be expanded over two days. With more people participating on each day, more tasks can be completed. Our employees asked to do more this year, and I’m proud to say we’re making that possible.”
Several Welch Allyn business partners support this effort every year by donating product for the care kits and also attending to assist with the efforts, and this year is no different. Welch Allyn distributors who either donated items, attended or both include McKesson Corp., Cardinal Health, Medline, Owens & Minor, NDC, Inc., IMCO, Inc. and Seneca Medical. Other donations were provided by Marietta Corporation of Cortland, NY along with UniSource Inc. and Dukal Corp.
