The operating room is filled with a number of very important medical devices from the patient monitoring equipment to the operating table to the specially designed lighting.

Staff members in hospitals, surgical centers and other healthcare facilities use the lights for surgical procedures including neurosurgery, endoscopic surgery, and a variety of other procedures to illuminate the focus area.  These high-tech lighting solutions empower surgeons and medical professionals to obtain a better resolution of the surgical area and help the surgical team complete needed tasks more effectively and thus improve outcomes.

An aging world population, especially in the United States, as well as a predicted increase in the number of surgery centers is expected to fuel the growth of these markets.

The total world operating room equipment market was valued at $770 million in 2010 and is forecast to grow 3.6 percent per year to reach $989.6 million in 2017, according to GlobalData’s “Operating Room Equipment – Global Opportunity Assessment, Competitive Landscape and Market Forecasts to 2017.” The market researcher predicts an increase in the number of ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs), growth in medical tourism in emerging economies, decreasing material costs and technological innovations to drive the market.

In the U.S., the growth is forecast to be closer to 4 percent annually through 2017.
