MedWrench Guru of the Month

For today’s edition of the MedWrench blog, I would like to institute a new format for featuring our most active “MedWrenchers”. As you are all aware, MedWrench is a network for medical equipment professionals to interact with one another in order to share information and help one another troubleshoot errors with the equipment they use on a daily basis. However, if MedWrench did not have so many dedicated members willing to monitor the forums and chime in on discussions, we would not have grown into the organization that we are today. I would like to start highlighting a few of our most active members in order to show our appreciation. Today, I would like to thank Dean Stephens.

How long have you been a member of MedWrench, Dean?

I honestly don’t know. My best guess would be that I joined sometime in 2009 or 2010, based on my employment at the time.

How did you first hear about MedWrench?

I believe I found MedWrench during a web search looking for information on a piece of equipment I was working on. The forum-style layout appealed to me, more so than a listserv or BBS.

What aspect of MedWrench do you utilize the most?

I use the Q&A forums constantly. My morning ritual at work is to check for any fires to put out in my facility, and then check MedWrench for any questions or comments I may be able to help with.

Where are you currently employed? What is your position there? How long have you been with the organization?

I am currently employed at Penn Highlands Elk Medical Center. I am the Biomedical Engineering Department Supervisor and have held this position since December, 2013.

What are your hobbies?

I have been an avid motorcyclist since 1984, though I was hooked in 1980. I just didn’t know it for a few years! I also try to audition at least once a year for a role in a play at my local community theater, the Reitz Theater in DuBois, PA. I also have been continuously doing remodeling work on the 108-year-old house that my wife, Nancy, and I bought in 1999. Most of the work is finished now, but there are still a few projects to be done.

What one word describes Dean Stephens the best?

Gregarious (are you surprised?)
