For today’s edition of the MedWrench blog, I would like to feature one of our most active “MedWrenchers”. This month, I would like to highlight Ted Lucidi as our “Featured Guru” for the month of March. Ted is one of our most active members on the forums and is always willing to share any knowledge he has with our users via the Q&A forums. It is because of users like Ted that MedWrench continues to grow at such a fast pace, and we cannot thank him enough for his willingness to help our fellow MedWrenchers. How long have you been a member of MedWrench?
I've been a MedWrench promoter since Day 1! MedWrench is a tool which I wish was available during my biomed years. Seeing as though that was through the progression of the internet, few options existed at that time other than the BiomedTalk ListServ. There may be other types of pseudo-social media out there for the HTM field, but I believe that MedWrench provides the biomed community with exactly what it needs.
What aspect of MedWrench do you utilize the most?
There are thousands of devices on MedWrench. The My Bench feature is great. It lets me focus on only the devices in my areas of focus. When a user posts a question to a device on My Bench, I receive an email. It allows me to provide feedback in a timely manner. I also enjoy reading the Blog. It's a great forum in which to post upcoming events and timely information.
Where are you currently employed? What is your position there? How long have you been with the organization?
For the last few years, I've been a technical and clinical support specialist at Bayer HealthCare (Formerly MEDRAD Multi-Vendor Service). I'm also going on 14 years as an adjunct instructor at Penn State University. I started my career, back in the late 80's as a service engineer at Allegheny General Hospital (now Allegheny Health Network) in Pittsburgh. As part of that role, I started performing bi-weekly educational sessions for the clinical staff on safety in the healthcare environment. This progressed into my role at PSU where I'm an adjunct instructor in the Biomedical Engineering Technology program.
In 2006, I transitioned from the role of service engineer into management with Bayer HealthCare. I managed the repair shop which specialized in ultrasound transducer repair. With my experience in the clinical environment, my detailed knowledge of Bayer's service offerings and my expertise in the radiological environment, Bayer HealthCare created my current role.
In this role, I am responsible for training our inside and field-based sales teams, as well as our operations teams. I interface with marketing, as well as R&D, in order to keep our internal and external customers abreast of our offerings. In the office, I provide live support across our multi-vendor product lines. I travel the nation (and the world) working with our biomed customers and, ultimately, their customers. The goal is to develop true partnerships, so that health care providers can reduce their long-term service spend. It's been a fun ride!
What are your hobbies?
With all that I do, is there time for a hobby? Besides working more than a full-time job with Bayer and teaching at PSU, I'm also a part-time student at PSU's World Campus. I truly enjoy learning and sharing what I've learned. I enjoy hiking and just fell in love with the Sedona, AZ area. I also have a great enjoyment for and appreciation of creative cooking. Call me a foodie. I could have enjoyed being a chef had the biomed life not been so rewarding.

Diligent
