MedWrench Q&A with Mike Bayliss from Datrend Systems, Inc.

In today’s edition of the MedWrench blog, I want to share a brief Q&A I had with Mike Bayliss, Global Sales Manager at Datrend Systems Inc. Datrend is a biomedical engineering company focused on developing and manufacturing leading edge biomedical instruments and devices for hospitals, clinics and medical equipment manufacturers. How long has Datrend been manufacturing biomedical instruments and devices for hospitals, clinics and medical equipment manufacturers?

Datrend began operations in 1991 with the original mission to build a better infusion pump tester.

During this time, how many different types of analyzers/devices has Datrend manufactured?

Since our start-up, Datrend has now expanded to make a complete line of testing devices, including our Phase 3 defibrillator analyzer, Oxitest SPO2 meter, and our vPad and ES601 electrical safety analyzers.

If you had to name one particular device that you would say is your top selling instrument, which one would it be?

Our new top-seller is the vPad electrical safety analyzer. It uses an Android tablet as the user interface, providing many benefits for use, including large color graphics, huge memory for storing service manuals and photos and video instructions, and icon-based test functions. It can be scaled and customized for individual users by means of apps, including automation, communication with CMMS systems, and equipment and calibration management.

Do your devices come with a warranty? If so, how long is the warranty?

Most Datrend products come with an unprecedented five-year warranty. Oue devices simply require an annual calibration at any of our world-wide Service Centers to maintain warranty coverage.

Does Datrend ever attend any medical conferences or Expos where they offer live demos of their equipment? If so, which conferences?

Datrend is represented worldwide by a series of distributors. Each of these participate in trade shows and expos relevant to the biomedical community in their territory.  We have a hard time updating our website to keep up with our distributor activities in their communities!  And of course, Datrend participates directly in both the AAMI show and the MD Expos.

What is your newest device on the market?

We have two new products, just announced: Our vPad-IN is a tablet-based Incubator analyzer, and provides automated testing to the  IEC 60601-2-19 and 2-21 standards. We also just introduced the vPad-Rugged, which provides all the advantages of our vPad electrical safety analyzer enclosed in a waterproof, crush-proof protective case.

Where do you see Datrend in the next five years?

Datrend intends to be a global leader in manufacturing test devices for the biomedical community. We will continue to build on our expertise with tablet-based user interfaces and continue to increase the scalability of all our products by developing new apps for our customers.
