In just a month, approximately 2,200 professionals from around the world will gather in Tampa, FL to talk about the toughest challenges and biggest opportunities in healthcare technology management (HTM), a field that continues to grow as healthcare adopts more complex, sophisticated systems of medical devices. The AAMI Annual Conference & Expo, which will run June 3–6 at the Tampa Convention Center, is the premiere industry event for HTM professionals.

With more interconnected medical devices and technology being introduced into healthcare facilities—and more threats to that technology emerging in the cyberworld—the purchase, maintenance, and use of this equipment is more important than ever. So too are the HTM professionals who manage these activities.

Throughout AAMI 2016, industry experts and leaders will provide practical guidance and insights on trends in the healthcare technology sector, such as cybersecurity, interoperability, and risk management. There also will be several sessions devoted to professional development, and the AAMI Foundation will host a two-part workshop on the management of clinical alarms.

“The AAMI Annual Conference is simply the best venue for finding out what to expect on your next accreditation site visit from The Joint Commission or DNV, learning from experts who have already solved your biggest challenges, networking with peers, landing a new job, troubleshooting a big problem with colleagues, and meeting with vendor partners—all in three days packed with events,” said AAMI President Mary Logan.

Featured speakers include:

  • Scott Berkun, bestselling author of Making Things Happen and The Myths of Innovation, will deliver the opening keynote address. Berkun will explain how real innovation unfolds and will explore how to approach creativity and leadership without falling prey to the myths of innovation.
  • Frank J. Overdyk, MSEE, MD, an anesthesiologist for the Roper St. Francis Health System in Charleston, SC, and Nat Sims, MD, a cardiac anesthesiologist and physician advisor to biomedical engineering at Massachusetts General Hospital, will discuss the changing landscape of patient safety during the annual Dwight E. Harken Memorial Lecture.
  • The Joint Commission’s George Mills, whose popular sessions are standing-room only, will discuss his organization’s latest initiatives and future plans, as well as answer questions from the audience. Mills is a well-known figure within the healthcare technology community, serving as director of the accreditation organization’s Department of Engineering.

“The AAMI Annual Conference and Expo is the place to find out, firsthand, what’s on the mind of a diverse group of healthcare technology professionals in a collaborative environment where sharing ideas, connecting with others, and learning are the name of the game,” said Sabrina Reilly, vice president of membership and marketing at AAMI.

In the Expo Hall, close to 200 exhibitors, including Aramark, Medtronic, Philips, Sodexo CTM, Sotera Wireless, Spectrum Technologies, Summit Imaging, and USOC Bio-Medical Services, will be on hand. Attendees will be able to get a closer look at state-of-the-art technology and attend demonstrations of cutting-edge medical equipment.

A full schedule of educational sessions and events is available at www.aami.org/ac. Members of the media are welcome to attend.
