Seventeen national and local professional organizations have agreed to join AAMI in a special celebration recognizing healthcare technology management (HTM) professionals.

Slated for May 22–28, 2016, AAMI's annual HTM Week aims to raise awareness of and show appreciation for the crucial work performed by those who service and maintain medical equipment, including biomedical equipment technicians, clinical engineers, imaging specialists, and laboratory equipment specialists. Their work helps to protect patient safety and reduce healthcare costs.

“HTM professionals do critically important—and often underappreciated—work,” said Patrick Bernat, AAMI’s director of healthcare technology management. “HTM Week is a unique opportunity to shine the spotlight on their efforts and to say thank you.”

HTM Week 2016 is currently is being supported by the following organizations:
  • Armed Forces Biomedical Society
  • Bay Area Association of Medical Instrumentation
  • Biomedical Associations of Wisconsin
  • California Medical Instrumentation Association
  • Colorado Association of Biomedical Equipment Technicians
  • Florida Biomedical Society
  • Fort Sam Houston (Texas) Biomedical Technician Program
  • Georgia Biomedical Instrumentation Society
  • Healthcare Technology Management Association of Ohio
  • Healthcare Technology Management Association of South Carolina
  • Heartland Biomedical Association

If your society or association plans to celebrate the week, please contact Bernat at pbernat@aami.org to be included as a supporting organization. Individuals and organizations are encouraged to use the social media hashtag #HTMWeek16 to document and share their activities.

As part of its schedule of events, AAMI will hold two HTM Week contests and a free online forum. That event, scheduled for Tuesday, May 24, from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. EDT, will explore the increasing importance of building a bridge between HTM and information technology (IT) departments, as well as ongoing efforts to define the attributes of an HTM/IT “bridge” role.

More information about the HTM/IT event and details about how to enter the HTM Week contests are available on AAMI’s website. Complimentary posters and other HTM Week resources are also available for download.
