March 2018 Guru of the Month - Johnathan Foltz

Johnathan has been a MedWrench user for over three years. He loves helping other users solve their problems and the community aspect of MedWrench. Johnathan understands that sometimes you need a little more than a manual, and when you do, people like him are here to help.

1.How long have you been a member of MedWrench?   

Since Feb. 2015

2.What aspect of MedWrench do you utilize the most? 

The Community Feed is fantastic in which you can provide input and receive input on any medical device imaginable. 

3.Are you aware that MedWrench now has a mobile site? If so do you use it from your smart phone or tablet? 

I did not know this, I will investigate now that I have more information at my hands.

4.What do you like most about MedWrench? 

Again, the Community is what I utilize and like the most! It is crucial in times when a manual just isn't enough.

5. What do you think about the new version of MedWrench for your desktop?

The new version of the MedWrench is much easier to navigate and the FDA Alerts and News Articles are right where you need them!

6 Where are you currently employed? What is your position there? 

Firelands Regional Medical Center; Imaging Service Engineer

7. What type of equipment do you work on the most? 

X-Ray equipment including: C-Arms, Rad/Fluoro, as well as Digital Rooms

8. In your current position do you purchase parts or equipment? 

I do purchase parts and equipment. This makes it more of a streamline and controlled position, preventing less mishaps along the way. 

9. What is your role in the process? 

My roll in purchasing parts or equipment involves, calling for parts and availability, getting a PO in case the purchase is an excess of a P-Card and finally ordering the part.

10. What are your hobbies? 

Hobbies include, enjoying family time with my beautiful, gorgeous Wife and my handsome son. Being in Sandusky, Ohio (aka Roller Coaster Capital of the World), we find ourselves frequently at the popular Cedar Point. Cedar Point has not just rides but a great sandy beach where they hold parties and cookouts, all while enjoying Lake Erie. I also enjoy exercising, as long as I have enough energy from my son keeping me busy.

11. What is one word that describes you the best?

Dedicated, whether its family and my career

12. What advice do you have to anyone just graduating and entering in the HTM Field?

Education, education, education. Just because you are graduating and entering the HTM field, you still need to keep yourself relevant. Go with the flow, in fact be the leader. If your boss asks you to go to RSTI to learn xray, take it! If your boss asks you to get some training in a lab line, do it. Its gonna benefit you in the long run and it will make yourself irreplaceable. Or... just ask yourself this, What Would BenC Do?

13. What else should we know about you?

I didn't get to this career overnight, in fact I never heard of it. When I was just an early teen, I begged for my mom to get me a computer. Finally she gave in, and boy was she mad when I took it apart and put it back together. Fast track 5-10 years later, my mom had a tanning business and when her beds would break down, I volunteered to repair. With no previous experience, I picked up the blue print and figured out any issues that aroused. Then I thought to myself, what career would benefit me? I loved helping people out and I loved troubleshooting electronics. Well, I googled that same question and someone on a social media site had a pretty cool title: Biomed Tech. Sounded great, and important. So I was hooked, loving it ever since!
