Scott Williams is a BMET II with Trimedx at Virginia Mason Memorial in Yakima, Washington and has been a MedWrench member since 2016. In college, Scott tried programming but did not have the aptitude for it, so he pursued a suggested alternative in the technology career field – biomed.

"I got a CBET after attending Meet Patel’s online class, after interning at OHSU in Portland, Oregon," said Scott. "This I think helped at the start of my career to give me the confidence in taking on just about any equipment in the hospital. With the support of my manager, Soren Timothy, I’ve got to attend multiple service schools to broaden my knowledge and help the hospital staff keep their equipment up and running."

Scott works on various pieces of equipment, including infusions pumps, GE pandas and giraffes, fetal monitors, centrifuges and patient monitors, so MedWrench is the perfect place to find everything he needs.

"I use the forums to search for error codes that may have happened to other biomeds," Scott stated. "I also utilize the forums for manuals." Scott's bench currently has an Ender 3 Pro 3D printer and a disassembled microscope.

Scott's newfound hobby of 3D printing has not only entertained him and his family, but he has also found a way to benefit his department, as well. "I have been printing out items for the family, along with impossible parts to find," said Scott. "For instance, there was a knob on an exercise bike that isn't sold and has a very odd turn ratio to size. We were able to source a bolt, but a wrench had to hang off the bike to perform any adjustments. I was able to print out a knob for the bolt and save the department a few hundred dollars."

Scott has a wife and a 3-year-old son, so his other hobbies include family activities, hiking, biking together, swimming and playing the Nintendo Switch together.

For anyone who is just graduating and entering the HTM field, Scott says he encourages those to build relationships. "You can never know everything, and something is going to go wrong," Scott added. "If the nurse manager has a good relationship with you, then life is so much easier to ask for assistance or forgiveness for a mistake."

Thank you, Scott, for your dedication to the HTM field! We appreciate your input and wisdom in our community.
