June Guru of the Month: Paul Olson

Meet our June Guru - Paul Olson! We are excited to have Paul on our team to highlight him as our June Guru of the Month!

Paul Olson, BMET and owner of Rescue Biomedical Services, has been a MedWrench member for a little over a year. Paul's HTM career began when he was doing computer repairs for the owner of a medical equipment repair company. "We started talking, and he offered me an entry level position," said Paul. "From there, I never looked back, and today I run my own biomed company."

Paul describes MedWrench as an "all-in-one resource for medical equipment questions," where he mostly utilizes the forums and repair manuals that are typically hard to find. On his bench, Paul currently has a Midmark M11 for a customer and is refurbishing a Midmark 119. He mostly works on autoclaves, exam tables and gurneys.

To stay informed in his career, Paul reads manufacturer and vendor newsletters, uses BMET websites like MedWrench and attend manufacturer certification classes.

Paul provides some great advice for anyone entering into the HTM field:

"Always be open to learning and new opportunities. Medical equipment is a very wide field, and it is always changing. If you aren't always learning something new, you're falling behind the people that are. It can be challenging and frustrating at times but equally rewarding. I think you really have to love solving problems others can't or you'll get burned out."

In his free time, Paul says he has been doing some non-medical electronics repair, mostly on old record players and stereo receivers. "It's rewarding getting something working that is over 50 years old, and I learn new things about electronics pretty much every time," Paul added. "I also play the piano and guitar and love off-roading all over Southern California."

Paul now spends most of his free time with his five month old at home!

Thank you, Paul, for your dedication to the HTM field! We appreciate your input and wisdom in our community.
