OTAWARA, TOCHIGI, JAPAN, February 2011 – Toshiba Medical Systems Corporation has rolled out Aquilion RX, a new 16-slice scanner. This new CT scanner incorporates the latest dose-saving technologies based on iterative dose reduction. The Aquilion RX will first be presented at the Technical Exhibition, Expo C level, booth #315 of the European Congress of Radiology (ECR), which takes place in Vienna, Austria from 4 to 7 March 2011. Aquilion RX completes TOSHIBA's 16-slice segment, and offers maximum performance for customers who need to perform a wide variety of routine clinical examinations in a streamlined workflow with the objective of delivering the best diagnostic quality at a minimal level of radiation exposure. "As part of Toshiba's commitment to deliver innovative technologies to a wide range of users, Aquilion RX has been developed as an economical CT scanner for general use, while embodying the flexibility usually seen only in the top-class segment," said Mr. Yasuo Nobuta, vice president, and general manager of the CT Systems Division, Toshiba Medical Systems Corporation. "With AIDR, the Adaptive Iterative Dose Reduction technology implemented in Aquilion RX provides excellent image quality at the lowest dose." New Product Features "Ultra-Low-Dose Examinations" Using AIDR, image noise levels can be reduced by up to 50%. At comparable quality, the patient dose can be lowered by up to 75% compared to conventional scanners. Images iteratively processed with AIDR assure superb image quality at the minimum dose for each patient. "Ultra-flexible Workflow" A new computer platform for Aquilion RX provides a 60% faster reconstruction time. In addition, SUREXtension™, a thin-client display station, makes it possible to review images anywhere in the hospital without relying on a PACS system, increasing patient throughput and shortening waiting times. "Quantum detector technology" Aquilion RX incorporates Toshiba's exclusive, industry-leading Quantum Detector technology. The 0.5-mm element size and state-of-the-art reconstruction guarantee highly detailed imaging. Using the full width of the detector, fast scanning over a long range can be achieved in the case of emergencies or if there are breath-holding restrictions. "Wide Application Range" The sophisticated suite of applications implemented in Aquilion RX supports all the clinical needs that a 16-slice scanner is expected to meet. A powerful 7.5-MHU tube ensures that scans can be performed without leading to unnecessary waiting times. Release in Europe Prior to the official launch at ECR 2011, several orders were accepted, and the first installations will be performed immediately after ECR. "We received very positive reactions to the excellent specifications of Aquilion RX, and are convinced that this new system will further increase Toshiba's presence in this important 16-slice segment," said Mr. Henk Zomer, Business Unit Manager CT, Toshiba Medical Systems Europe. About Toshiba Medical Systems With headquarters in Zoetermeer, The Netherlands, Toshiba Medical Systems Europe BV markets, sells, distributes and services diagnostic imaging systems and coordinates clinical diagnostic imaging research for all modalities in Europe. FEATURES
Ultra Low Dose Examinations This system incorporates a variety of functions that can significantly reduce the patient exposure dose, such as AIDR, SUREExposureTM 3D, and Boost3DTM as standard. AIDR uses an iterative algorithm to reduce image noise while maintaining details and structural edges. The patient dose can be significantly reduced without negatively affecting image quality. Ultra High Patient Throughput A new computer platform for AquilionTM RX provides a 60% faster reconstruction time, allowing rapid diagnosis and promoting more efficient clinical workflow. Ultra Fast MPR Generation Generation of MPR images can be performed automatically in accordance with the exam protocol setting. Ultra Fast Data Transfer Enhanced DICOM protocol allows fast data transfer speed up to 60 images per second. Automated data transfer to multiple destination can be set in exam protocol setting. Adaptable console options - 1 or 2 Scan and display consoles maximize workflow. Both consoles can be operated independently, enabling parallel processing, significantly improving the efficiency of image processing and diagnosis. Powerful postprocessing CT application - on your own computer SUREXtension offers remote access to Aquilion’s advanced display console functions and clinical applications from your own computer on the hospital network. This thin-client display station makes it possible to review images anywhere in the hospital without relying on a PACS system, increasing patient throughput and shortening waiting times.
