Air In Line Errors Fixed Without New Parts!!!

Hello Everyone,

I generally don't spend much time troubleshooting any of the sensor errors that these pumps seem to have as the mechanism assemblies have dropped significantly in price. Recently I decided to work through an "air in line" error message that kept re-appearing to see if I could increase my understanding of exactly how these sensors worked. The error code that I was receiving was 8-1 "Greater than 500uL of air detected entering the cassette withing the last two intake strokes". After verifying that the cassette was fully primed and working on other pumps I pulled the mech out for a closer look. I read the theory of operation portion of the service manual on the Bubble sensor PWA and it led me to the set of potentiometers on the board itself. R21 and R12 can be adjusted to move the centerpoint frequency of the Phase Lock Loop portion of the receiver circuitry. I belive that R12 is for the Proximal Air Sensor and R21 is for the distal air sensor. I measured these 2kohm pot's to be 683 ohms and 522 ohms respectively. After adjusting the prox air pot to 522 ohms to match the dist air pot; and re-assembling the pump I no longer had an air in line error. I did test the pump to ensure that it alarmed with even a small amount of air in the line and it functioned correctly!

Please be aware of adjusting the pots too far to the point that the sensor does not function, this can be lethal for the patient so please ensure proper functions after making your adjustments.

Enjoy the money that you will save your companies by performing this little procedure instead of swapping out your mech's.

Thanks,
