I bought a used EverFlo 5L with 7300 hours for my Mom to keep as a spare.
After purchase, I found out that there that were occasional visitors who smoked near the unit and the unit has been in storage for a year to a year and half.
Upon close inspection, I found what I think is the original gray Respironics branded filter with dirty dark brown holes. I removed the rear cover of the machine and found dirt and dust. The foam blocks are stained dirt brown. The internal tubing is yellowed and the internal filters I assume are original. Cleaned the entire unit.
There are no odors - no cigar or cigarette smoke odor. Since the unit does not have OPI, I have no idea of the o2 purity. I am terribly concerned about the cause of the tubing yellowing and if either dirt or smoke residue is in the unit. I assume none of these things are good for the sieve beds or valves. I don't want my Mom to be exposed to any contaminants.
Does anyone have any experience with the tubing yellowing and the possible causes? Is getting it tested with an o2 purity meter really going to tell me if the machine is contaminated and if those contaminates can be released into the user? Are my concerns warranted?
I have a Draeger Permox Silent Care with the following symptoms:-
- If switched on with airflow restricted (4Lpm for example), then it triggers an immediate alarm mode and shuts down the compressor.
- If switched on with airflow unrestricted (regulator fully opened) it runs just fine and produces oxygen. If left to run, after 5 minutes you get a 3-beep alarm, but it continues to run.
- One it is running unrestricted, if the airflow is restricted (to 4Lpm for example), then after a while it will go into a single continuous alarm and shut down the compressor.
- I have checked all the pipes, no kinks or snags found, and with the regulator fully open it easily exceeds the flow measurable by the flow meter.
- Filters are all clear.
- Compressor runs nicely
Can anybody please advise on what may be wrong?
I notice there is an RS232 port and also a header pin block on the PCB. Can I use these to aid diagnostics?
Is there ANY technical or service documentation available apart from the standard use manual?
I am located in Hampshire U.K.. Are there any service places nearby?
