I've loaded in new film but the reader say "empty"

When I go to the printlink5 to manually put in the new film number 1 - I can't because the screen is grayed out.?

I've loaded in new film but the reader is showing "film empty".

When I try to set the Printlink 5 to configure film count manually can't do it because the screen is grayed out.  

Help!!  Where am I going wrong!?  I don't want to open the tray again and reshut it in case I expose the film..?
