QBC Diagnostics
QBC Diagnostics was formed in 2005 when the hematology product line was purchased from Becton, Dickinson and Company. The core technology of QBC Diagnostics hematology is Quantitative Buffy Coat (QBC) analysis: a patented technique in which a small sample of whole blood is placed into a capillary tube and centrifuged at high speed until all of the blood's components are separated according to their specific gravity. As the white blood cells and platelets separate from the red blood cells, they form a tiny, buff-colored layer between the red cells and the plasma called the "buffy coat".
