I have a service manual for the 6000 series tables (which doesn't seem to include the 6500 Hercules) and it appears that the solenoids/ manifolds are essentially identical. The manuals, while offering troubleshooting advise, don't even begin to address the issue of what proceedure is necessary to replace an open coil on one of the solenoids. It would appear that the entire manifold must be removed to access the coil. Can anyone advise, please? (It is the leg down coil which shows multimegohm resistance, by the way; other functions appear OK)

In the off chance you never solved this or someone else needs the answer on a future search..
it's fairly easy to replace the coils. there are 4 small #2 philips screws holding each coil cover on. for the leg down coil, you will need a chapman set(flex bit with a good philips bit, etc). make sure the leg cylinder is fully compressed(leg flat) otherwise you'll have oil come flying out.
once you remove the 4 screws, the coil/valve/cover just slide out
