intermittent lockups-iE33

I have an iE33 that intermittently when the continuous wave button is pressed the unit freezes. The only fix has been to turn off and restart the unit-then it works ok. This has happened 3 times, three different studies in a 1 week period. I am stumped and so is Philips, Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

rsiefers,

You state the problem as being intermittent. We need to work on establishing some consistency. This may not be hardware related.

Does the lock-up consistently occur when using a TEE probe or an external probe or either?

Does the lock-up consistently occur when using a user-defined preset or a custom preset? Maybe the preset is corrupt.

Let us know

problem only when using Continuous wave (CW probe) but intermittently.

user defined preset or common preset doesn't seem to matter.

Philips suggested checking "if" database is full-if not then make sure all is transferred, and default database to have a clean slate-unit in use, so I can't check until this afternoon.

Hi Bob,

Was this functionality ok before and this problem just started recently? Does the problem occur in the morning or afternoon? Perhaps it is temperature related?

Can you tell us if any hard ware or software has been replaced/reloaded or if anything else has been done to the unit recentely such as a software upgrade?

Off the cuff, I would try re-loading software first. After that, I would check all the power supplies before you enter CW mode and after you enter CW mode. Be sure to check for AC ripple with a scope as well - more than 1vpp is not good.

Also, try a different probe and different probe slots. It may be a probe issue or slot dependent.

Finally, I would try re-seating boards one by one to see if the problem goes away. A tedious, but effective process if you are patient.

Regards,

Chris

Not heat related-I've already eliminated that possiility. I've reseated all the boards, and am waiting to hear back.

I also considered the probe, and will "swap" probes with my other unit next

Thanks for your input-I'll let you know what I find!

One other thing to try is to shuffle the channel boards.  CW function only resides on far right channel board or board #3.  After you have tried all the other suggestions which are good ones.

Extremely rarely I have also seen the NAIM and/or User Interface at fault.  Just had a case with the UI was causing error when I peeled off the mask found a lot of fluid infiltration around all the keys.

Sounds like an NAIM board issue. Second culprit is a Channel Board, most likely Channel Board 0 as it is subject to higher temperatures than the rest due to its proximity to the NAIM Board. The issue arises during switching. The CW circuit is completely different than your standard 2d image bus and color bus. CW probe plugs into the FEC, try replacing FEC if that doesn't help, there are two ribbon cables that carry data from FEC to back end if A-C carts HOST assly. replace the ribbons then If happens replace the HOST. I assume you moved the CW probe to another system make sure thats not the problem.

The CW probe doesn't plug into the FEC directly. It actually plugs into the Scanhead Select and the CW flows throught Channel board 0.  I am leaning toward a frontend problem such as a Scanhead select instead of a backend problem. Wouldn't rule out a NAIM either if you have found the probe is not the culprit.
