3080 RC Remote

Our remote control on the 3080 RC flashes but does not function.  All on-board table controls work.  Can I assume it is just the remote or could it be a table board problem?

We have had it out of service for a while.

Thanks

Is it the "LOCK" that's flashing? If so check the limit switches at the top of the floor lock cylinders.

If all the leds are flashing then it could be the following:

1. a defective coiled cable assembly sTERIS p#: P764328571.

2. The control pcb mounted on the column inside base of table. Sorry I don't have part number with me right now.

We can provide those parts if you need.

Another possibility is the batteries and or charger circuit.

If the cable in the 3080/3085 remote shorts and the lights flicker, disconnect the remote NOW!!

What can happen:

The short in the cable will cause a voltage spike that will burn out the DC-DC voltage converter on the control PCB. When the DC-DC converter fails, it doesn't fail "safe", ie no voltage out, but fails with full output. This means that it feeds 24VDC into the power supply box. This voltage will literally blow the trace off of the back of the circuit board that is mounted to the top cover of the power supply box. That trace is only meant to have 5VDC through it.

Now, the flickering remote needs to be dealt with (~$900or more to replace). The control PCB also has to be replaced (another $1,300 or so). The power supply needs to be replaced (yet another $1,300 or so).

I've seen it twice now, the scrub nurses get a flickering remote and tape the cord so it doesn't flicker as much or as often. Eventually, the remote that could have been repaired for $500-$600 ends up creating a $3,500 parts bill.

The Easiest way to see if this is your issue if you ever suspect it is to lift the top cover off of the power supply. If I remember correctly, it's on with two phillips screws and there are two-three cables to disconnect. remove the circuit board from the metal plate and look at the back of it. If this scenario has happened to your table, the burnt trace will be easily seen. If you see this, DO NOT install another power supply until the control PCB has been replaced!!! If you do, you will just burn up a new power supply.

Been there, done that!!
