Horizontal Arm

I have an AMX that requires quite a bit of arm power to get it to move from the parked position. Over time, this wreaks havoc on the collimator. Any experience out there with what to check, adjust or service in these arms?

Have you tried replacing the brake in the arm?

It's probably a bad brake cable. They like to break near the grommet where they enter the horz arm, on the inside. I've had to replace several.

@Maggie: No, I haven't tried that yet. Considering my next response, that may be the way to go.

@Ty: Brake cable is good, as brake does release. But, this unit had been running with a broken brake cable for a while when I first started working at this site in 2014.

@ old x-ray guy: Park latch does release and the brake releases, but the initial effort to get it moving is still too much. Considering all I posted here, I'll probably try replacing the brake itself.

Well, I disassembled the column assembly. In the bearing tracks are a groove, across the surface at about where the bearing would sit if parked. I suspect that this groove is what is putting up the initial resistance. Has anyone else noticed this? This is my first time tearing into one of these arms, so I don't know if that groove was intended to be there.
