I have a beeping that first said battery low, replaced external battery. Is there an internal battery that I might need to replace?

yes, there is a 3v coin battery inside. you'll have to remove the top cover to access it

if you put it in monitor mode and drop in the battery does it come on?
this would bypass the coin cell and let you know if that's it.
