Kevin,

Don't mean to split hairs but as long as there's visiblity on the top of the unit, the speed can be verified with a tachometer.  Not sure if the unit can be calibrated though.

You can see the number of revolutions with the tachometer, but the calibration values of the manufacturer should be in your hands so that a comparison should be, made
