The protective cover must first be opened. You must remove the screws on the scale's rear with a screwdriver in order to access the protective cover. The protective cover can then be readily removed.

Locate the four screws that hold the weighing platform in place. Use a screwdriver to remove these screws.
Lift the weighing platform off of the scale and set it aside.
Check the springs and levers on the scale to ensure that they are in good condition and properly aligned. If any of these components are damaged or out of place, they will need to be replaced or adjusted.
