RE: Enteral Feeding Pump Report Post

you can actually just turn it off. It will retain it's memory. When you turn it back on, it should still be at the last VTBD setting. Also, if he's feeling gas or discomfort in his belly, you can effectively burp him. My son has the same pump and when his belly hurts from continuous feed, we take a syringe, remove the plunger, and attach it to the G tube hose, place it upright so it doesn't spill. Any gas in his belly will exit thru the syringe chamber. Nurses used to call it a chimney. you will also get liquid from the belly into it. If it fills up too much or when he's done venting, we will hold it up above his belly(he's usually in a laying down position) and let the liquid flow back down the tube into the belly.

Thanks for your reply. What does VTBD mean. I've only been doing this about 30 hours on my own. He thinks it could be reflux. He's already on 4 meds for his stomach. I may need to call for something else.
