Philips paper vs. Corometrics paper for US deflection..

I have a Philips M1353A fetal monitor (50 ip-2) which is reported to show 10BPM difference on the Ultrasound probe as compared to what it shows on the LED screen. I also have Corometrics monitors in the same facility, so I am wondering if the geometries of the paper might account for this 10BPM difference being reported? I cannot compare the two papers next to each other and suspect the wrong paper has been loaded into the Philips unit.. Let me know if you know or can help with this. thanks! mrstan

I don't think the paper would account for a 10 bpm discrepancy.  They both scale 30 - 240bpm.

Philips Paper

GE Paper

I would try the parameter test and check the accuracy on the paper:

Parameter Test:   This tests the signal to and from the transducer, but not the transducer itself. To carry out the test:

1. Switch on the monitor and the recorder.

2. Connect the appropriate transducer to each socket.

3. Press and hold Test.

Signal Correct Monitor Response

US/US1 190 is displayed and printed, the Signal Quality Indicator is green, and the fetal heartbeat is heard from the loudspeaker.

Toco A signal alternating between 10 and 60 is displayed and printed.

DECG 200 is displayed and printed, the Signal Quality Indicator is green, and the fetal heartbeat is heard from the loudspeaker.

MECG 120 is printed.

US2 170 is displayed and printed, the Signal Quality Indicator is green, and the fetal heartbeat is heard from the loudspeaker

I found the solution to the paper problem.  the GE and the Philips paper lines are not in the same place.  they are not compatible in other words.  The scale on the two papers are not lined up the same...  One would think the paper would be universal, but this is not the case here.  The readout from the paper will be scewed because the graph pattern is not in the same place on the two papers... even though they both look identical at first look..  I lined both papers up together and sure enough the scales are 10 different...

Moral of the story is no not mix GE and Philips paper if you have both monitors in your OB areas....  Situation resolved!
