When the monitor turns on and thr self test is complete the message 'short detected' is presented on the front of the screen!

Do you have the MFC connected to a shorted one step pad? See operator's manual, page 24-3.

This is a normal message when the multi-function cable (MFC) is connected to the test connector or OneStep pad.
