Excelsior ES leaks from flush reagent bottle 2

Hi, the technical service of our Excelsior ES (built 2009) has been suspended and we are trying to fix a leak of the flush reagent bottle 2. leak appears in bottom of the instrument upon returning the liquid from incubation chamber back to the storage bottle. liquids from previous steps and other compartments, e.g. the xylol range, showed no leakage.

visual inspection of the the hidden bottles section (not taking our any bottles): neither bottles nor the pipes or valves showed any leakage. in the front storage compartment we could not find any leak either.

we would appreciate any help and suggestions you may have, many thanks, Melanie

Your flush reagent #2 (alcohol) is leaking? Does this mean the bottle ends up with less alcohol in the bottle than it started with, at the end of a flush cycle? Or does it mean that there is alcohol in the bottom of the cabinet, at the end of the flush cycle? Have you opened the front door, and watched it during a flush cycle, to try to see where it is leaking from?

Hi Ross, in fact both the bottle ends up with less liquid (I think about 1 liter less!) and it appears in the bottom of the cabinet. however, I cannot find the path it takes. We believe it comes from the bottom area of the hidden bottles hind part of the instrument but we didn't take out any bottles there. the compartment underneath the reaction chamber is dry btw including the pipe leading to the bottom cabinet.

If it is not leaking from under the reaction chamber, or from the tubing or fittings going to the flush bottle, then you need to bring in an experienced tech to troubleshoot and PM it. It is probably leaking internally in the rotary valve (bottom of the chamber). This is an instrument that needs annual maintenance. The PM kit alone was about $2000, last time I bought one, so expect to pay substantially more for service.

I know, but unfortunately no company is willing to service it anymore. hence this forum was my lucky shot. do you by any chance if there is a way I can get into the service account on the instrument? I have seen for newer versions of the machine that there is a "production service" level but for my instrument (built in 2009) I cannot find such a service admin control section in the software.

Are you saying that Epredia won't service these anymore? Will they sell parts? I bought a PM kit from them ~18 months ago. Getting into P&S mode without a service manual and some training (and access to parts) probably won't help you - things can go very wrong very quickly.
What part of the country are you in, if you're looking for a service group.

P.S. I assume you know this, but if not - Thermo AP division (Anatomic Pathology) and products were sold to a company called Epredia, so be sure that is who you are contacting for parts and service. Alternatively there are experienced third party service companies that could help you, unless access to parts has been discontinued in the last year.

Hi Ross, yes we had requested a repair from Epredia but they let us know thatt they don't service the model anymore. But I could ask for a PM kit and ask our in house service if they can try arepair. do you know if we can use teh excelsior AS service manual for Excelsior ES works?

Yes, that service manual should be fine. I think that differences between them are fairly minor, as far as servicing is concerned.
