Battery error

I've been having intermittent issues with red screen battery errors. When I send the battery to Baxter, they usually test ok. This seems to be the main issue I've seen, and it's been across many pumps. Does anyone know what could be causing this?

Usually the li-ion pack needs to be changed in the wireless battery module. These are around 50 bucks usually..first thing to try is to remove the WBM and reseat it with the Pump plugged in and powered off. Let it sit on the charger and see if it hits the green fully charged status. If the battery is bad, it'll normally go red around 80-100%. Then change the battery pack by opening it up via the 4 t5 torx screws..

Be gentle screwing it back together. They strip easily.

Hey Rcderek22,

I usually buy a battery rebuild kit off amazon when the red screen of death pops up. Like Mr GRZA said, it's about $50 and is a fairly easy repair. You will need some tiny torx wrenches for the tiny screws that keep it together. Keep an eye out for the little magnet inside that is stuck to the case as that is what tells the pump a battery is installed. Sometimes they get stuck to the battery pack. The rebuild kit is the same for the WiFi enabled batteries and the regular ones as well. The WiFi batteries have one or two antennas sticking up. The process is the same for all of them.

Good Luck!

There are two cells on the battery pack in these pump battery modules.  I have found the issue is the two cells are imbalanced when they charge up.  Replacing the battery pack is the easiest and quickest way to resolve the issue of the red screen battery alarm.  I have fixed a couple by taking the good cells from two alarming battery packs and combining them into one good working cell.  For some reason there is always one bad cell of the two and the other is in good condition.  I have found that if the batteries are not charged (plugged in) constantly, an imbalance occurs between the two cells, which is what triggers the red screen for battery failure.

There is a recall on the battery packs on the spectrum IQ pump software related to the communication portion of the modules.  It might be worth checking your software version on your modules to see if they are affected or not.  This does not relate to the battery alarm (I think), but if they see the battery alarm on your modules when they come in to update your software, they are going to replace it and give you a bill to change out the battery... Just fair warning.. do your own replacement before you call them in to update your software patch...  I am trying to understand the load-leveling in charging the two battery cells in the pack, and I think it might be an issue with the software which controls the charging levels for the pump battery...  I am speculating though and have not validated this theory yet.

I have resolved the issue by taking two good cells from two bad batteries and making a good battery pack.   If you have money though, replace the battery and charge it to full once installed.

Not sure if any of this helps, but this might give you an idea of what to do on an easy level as well as knowing what is happening to make the battery packs fail in this way.

Very helpful answers! Our pumps just came off warranty so I can’t finally start cracking them open. I’ll try your suggestions and hopefully get some resolution to the problem. I’ll also look into the software recall to see if we’re affected. Thank you.
